The breeding farm of Teich was created in 1990 by Arcachon’s wholesale fish merchant which was strongly helped by local public authorities.
At the time, the aim was to set up a breed in order to develop a deep boring which was already existing and had a flow of water at 75°C which was 200 cubic meters per hour.
The idea was to take advantage of this calorie content in order to warm the water of pools during winters, through the intermediary of a heat exchanger and as a consequence, beeping a constant growth all along the year and so gain in rapidity.

From the very beginning, all pisciculturists which were interested in sturgeons made it in the aim of commercializing its flesh, no one was thinking about caviar. Because of drop in sales breeding fishes more than 5 years old. The first grains of caviar were produced in 1995. The difficulties of the beginning the length of the cycle (7 to 8 years for the maturity and the production of caviar) got the better of all farms. Nowadays it is second or third generation investors who are at the head of these farms.
For sure important progress have been made considering quality, breeders avaluate much better the size and the texture of eggs.

Lots are homogeneous and the production is now made in perfect sanitary conditions.
Since important works have been set about aiming at increasing twice the capacity of production and at setting up a mechanism of treatment of water which were in correlation with environmental constraints of our time.

The works are achieved and nowadays the farm has about 5000 m2 pods with a livestock of 150 T of females representing about 70 to 80.000 fishes intended to caviar’s production. The production of 3 T in 2005 will be 4,5 T in 2009 in cruising speed.
